Tokamak’d

Software

As I’m writting this right now I’m on the train from Milan to Turin heading back from TokamakMKI, unfortunetely i’m leaving early because an old 3vil exam (oh C.E.Shannon, you know i love you, honey:P)

It’s a shame i hadn’t found time to blog about Tokamak until now, but when you can hack all night long with an overdose of astonishing KDE people (and the even more astonishing our overlordness P-man) the internet suddenly becomes a boring useless toy πŸ˜›

In this meeting we managed to literally turn Plasma upside-down, well done his WOCiness Alexis! (light hearted readers are advised against trying to compile today’s svn) and other reeeally cool things like wastly improved javascript plasmoids support, add activities interface, start of an awesome looking krunner redesign as pretty as the new Twitter plasmoid, new applets and oh gosh, I’m too tired right now, I’m forgetting a really big bunch of cool stuff, their respective authors are officially authorized to stab
me to death πŸ˜€

I did a lot less than I was hoping but i managed to get movable resized panels (no configuration interface for you today:)) that can be seen in this reeeally crappy-looking screenshot:

center panel, oh yeah

Oh and yeah, as you can see a cashew is grown inside the panel, we’ll grow it with care and love, what’s his purpose? we will be able to configure the panel from just here instead of a losy 90’s looking right mouse button config dialog.

Did I mention that this screenshot looks like utter avariated crap? So i have a little spoiler for you: toghether with the Almighty Nuno we have defined how the panel and a new default Plasma theme (and the aspect not necessarily linked with a theme) will look like, and it will blow away pretty much everything you have seen before on any thing (well except for pink flying elephants of course…)

How it will
look like? not so easy, you’ll still have to suffer quite a bit waiting to see that πŸ™‚

exams exams exams

BlaBla

Today passed ad exam, yeeeeeeeah!!
It was a quite long time since i passed last, and later I collected an impressive row of failures, it seems I’m quite bach on track πŸ™‚
Not that the party will last long, because since i’ve promised myself to finish the university this year, the next year will be quite hectic between exams and thesis, so I won’t have time to do useless things like breathing or something like that, but yeah… I also fear I won’t be able to contribute to KDE so much πŸ™ but we’ll see how i manage to wrap things up…

Tasty Menu and other things

Software

As I said in the previous post I consider Tasty Menu more or less complete respect the goals I had in mind. I probably will do some other releases tweaking here and there.

Probably this will be a better drag and drop support (from the menu to the desktop and from the second/third column to the first), fixing the ton of bugs I surely have introduced right now, maybe I will add a way to clear most used and recent used apps, some more configurability and who knows, to make the search functionality a little bit less painfully slow (/me begins to doubt that I will achieve to do that :P).

I still haven’t decided if there will be a kde4 port, partly because the spare time is always decreasing and mainly because Tasty Menu is very deeply tied to the qt3/kde3 technology. The listview api has totally changed (yeah, i know there is the qt3 support module but it’s so uncool:P)and of course the whole kicker thing is gonna being killed, and the (plasma?) replacement is in the early beginning. So it would be more a total rewrite than a port, so I don’t know if it will be worth the effort.

As I said I haven’t decided yet, so don’t desperate, there is still a little door open πŸ˜€

In the next few months I will be totally drown in courses exams and various university stuff, so probably there won’t be much releases of both Tasty Menu and Polyester.

Now I plan to make some more plain bugfix releases for both things (especially Polyester that has been negleted for a long time) and when (or if :P) I will have some more time there probably will be a Tasty Menu 1.0 release and maybe I will start the hyper-procrastinated qt4 port of polyester (and I ffear this also will be a very long work with more rewritting from scratch that I would like to)

University!

BlaBla

Now the university is (for the moment) finished!!!
I graduated today, even if it’s only the first grade (3 years made in 5) I’m feeling rather less depressed.
Now I will have to do at least two more years of specialization, so I guess I will have all the time of being depressed again :-).
But for the moment: WOHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

University, PHP and everything

BlaBla

The end of the university is near (or at least the first level: silly italian 3+2). It makes me less depressed than the usual about how i’m chronicaly late with the life. Since i’m a PHP-junkie i was quite lucky having the occasion to write a PHP related thesis.

I will not bore everybody whith the uber-boring thesis argument (a dictionary of legal terms, of course web-based otherwise it would lose the cool factor:), anyway maybe one day when everything will be finished i will publish it here… or not, who knows :)). Writing that thingie has let me learn many small things on what my evil plans for the ultimate website/content manager are.

So be prepared for a long and grammatically poor rant about many trendy buzzwords like PHP, cms, wikis, web 2.0 and world domination πŸ˜€

Physics and phpWet

BlaBla

Yesterday i passed my (fortunately)only physics exam (the electromagnetism part), i thought i hated it more, ain’t bad, after all…
btw, i hope i will graduate someday….
On other absolutely-non-relevant news the wonderful phpwet now sould have the archive feature a little bit less broken, so now this site has a news archive! wow πŸ˜›
