Two little extra videos linked to the previous post, this is always plasma-netbook and plasma-mobile running on the JAX10 with Moblin, this time with the screen rotated to vertical.
It is a bit of an hack since the device doesn’t have an accelerometer and the touchscreen needs to be recalibrate every time the screen rotates, but is neat as a proof of concept, because neither Plasma Netbook or Plasma Mobile were never designed thinking about vertical screens, but in both cases, always keeping in mind we are at early prototype stage, they work quite well.
Something to be noted, fullscreen plasmoids tends to look a bit better on a vertical screen rather than an horizontal one, and our on screen keyboard works already quite well, even tough it’ll need to show less keys when in a tiny screen

So, when you tap the background… it does that cool flippy animation thingy. What’s that for? What goes on the other side of the activity?
@the_madman: there you will have an application launcher that will show stuff for the context you are right now (activity). Take a look at http://blog.morpheuz.cc to know more about the concept itself… Cheers,
Only 3 icons for activities when the screen is vertical and 5 when it is horizontal. What do you plan ?
When you switch between activities, it moves vertically. Do you plan something for horizontal movement ? task switching ? destkop switching ?
I’ll take 10 of those nifty KDE Mobile handsets. 😀
the fliping is suposed to be activated by the sliding your finguer in the screen. it can show you widgets for an activity or lounch icons for that same activity…
the number of actiivities is somthing that is up to the user to set you should be able to scroll them, the only activity that shoould remain in front screen is the phone activity, at least for the phone devices 🙂
@Lionel: as i said, it was never designd or tought about vertical screen yet, just surprising how it works.
it would probably be able either to scroll or have two lines or have different panels or whatever.
Morning Marco
I don’t think that the device needs a smaller onscreen keyboard with less keys but the onscreen keyboard needs an input system based on hidden markov models (or some other algorith) to guess or calculate the most possible to press character.
The iphone keyboard does something similar afaik.
But it depends on the onscreen keyboard if their is a possibility for a different “input method”.
This research demands a cooperation of much more A very interesting connection of both religion and science stories you’ve got here. That drives me to an idea of writing some kind of a term paper assistance
on this. Everybody knows about differents between those two but there’s not that much about their similairities. to get paramount success
I think I will take this information for my term papers on software. Cool video!
so basically, 2 screens make up one “video”, for a total of 3 actual video screens side by side which can (or rather, with the goal being) to interact with one another… so for instance, have a video that can jump from each “screen” or text that can roll across… the demo looks really cool, however, how could I do this within Media Composer… I don’t want to have to “guess”/match each separate sequence as that would take ages….
