Just a little thing, but it looked to me it kinda deserved a really short screencast 🙂
Adding applets to the panel with drag and drop in plasma was a bit of a pita, because you had to hit exactly that 4 pixels between an item and the other, so painful that wasn’t really obvious it was possible at all…
so here is how the current trunk behaves 🙂
In other news some days ago something like 7 applets (did i forgot some others?:) were merged for 4.2 release counting what is in the workspace module and in the addons module, so there will be a ton more stuff to play with :).
That’s the reason for the kabooms we are fixing right now, but no fear 🙂
Thank you, thats a huge improvement. I always struggled with adding applets to the panel.
But I think it would be more clear if the empty space looks like the background of existing applets being dragged around in the panel. The grey rect with rounded corners, you know?
One step ahead of you, Nils: It’ll be using the grey drop zone indicator for 4.2.0 =)
Much, much improved – I found the old way very unwieldy. Cheers! 🙂
This is what I expect from Plasma, great work! The only complaint I have is that it looks too “jumpy”, what do you think about a slower and “smoother” animation?
Now if the dragged items could look like the actual applets…
Well, it’s about time that was sorted out. GOOD.
Lets:
a) lighten the dull gray windows. Glowing brightness please! Not dull slabs. The Open Solaris (GNOME) theme is still achingly more beautiful than KDE 4;
b) make the active windows distinguishable from the inactive windows without special effects;
c) make the plasmoids be sized by intuitive corner dragging rather than growing from the middle;
d) work on stability and speed – it’s not Windows 95!
e) watch TRON.
can you also move stuff from the desktop to the panel and vice versa? can’t see this in the video…
Thank you for this improvement. This adds the some polish to plasma which I am sure will make many people happy. I am running 4.1 right now and I love it, but seeing what is coming up… it’s breathtaking! Great work! Thank you!
It’s the small things like this that bring KDE huge steps forward. Great work!
yes!!! This is gorgeous stuff!!! Great!! I agree with Hans… please make the animation slower (yes, ala OSX docker, I’m sorry :P).. it’s a usability issue, it gives you more time to understand what’s happening… anyway great work!!
dragging outside the panel: this is being worked on by another dude, i espect to see it in trunk by today or next few days
gray drag indicator: as aaron said yes, it’s coming
animations: it’s something planned for the future (post 4.2), something still has to be worked out but will be
Looking good! Which style are you using? The squared ‘right-click context’ menu looks way better than the rounded one!
This is awesome work, looking forward to 4.2. This sure looks easy! 🙂
As extra improvement, would it be possible to use animations too? I always love the way the MacOS dock icons move in a wave to make room for the icon you’re dragging. (this is off course not a requirement for 4.2, but grants you extra bonus points 😉 ..or cookies 🙂
